Der koranische Batteriezellhersteller SK Innovation hat, über seine Tochterfirma SK IE Technology, sich dazu entschlossen zwei weitere Batterie-Separatoren Werke in Silesia, Polen, zu bauen. Der Bau der zwei neuen Anlagen soll im Jahr 2021 beginnen. Langfristig soll so eine Gesamtkapazität von 1,54 Milliarden m² (ca. 216.000 Fußballfelder) an Batterie-Separatorenfläche alleine in Polen erreicht werden.
Ziel sei es, dass die beiden neuen Produktionswerke spätestens Mitte 2024 errichtet sind. Zu erwarten ist, dass SK IE die produzierte Separatorenfläche in erster Linie dazu nutzen wird, um die ebenfalls noch in Bau bzw. Planung befindlichen Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellproduktionsstandorte in Ungarn zu beliefern. Die beiden Standorte, die sich im südlichen Polen und nördlichen Ungarn befinden, trennt in diesem Fall eine Fahrstrecke von ca. 450 km. In Bezug auf die Kosten, die für den Aufbau der beiden Werke anfallen, gibt SK an mit Aufwänden in Höhe von umgerechnet 850 Millionen Euro zu planen.
