Die Contemporary Amperex Technology Thuringia GmbH (CATT) als erstes Werk von CATL außerhalb Chinas hat planmäßig mit der Serienproduktion von Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen begonnen. Die erste Charge lief von der neu installierten Produktionslinie in Thüringen bereits vom Band. Die Installation und Inbetriebnahme der übrigen Linien sei in vollem Gange, um die Produktion weiter hochzufahren, heißt es in einer offiziellen Mitteilung des Konzerns.
Bis zu acht Gigawattstunden im Jahr 2023
„Der Produktionsstart beweist, dass wir unser Versprechen als zuverlässiger Partner der Industrie gehalten haben“, sagt Matthias Zentgraf, CATLs Präsident für Europa: „Wir arbeiten hart daran, die Produktion auf volle Kapazität hochzufahren, was unsere oberste Priorität für das kommende Jahr ist.“ CATT hatte im April 2022 vom Land Thüringen die Genehmigung zur Batteriezellenproduktion erhalten, die eine Startkapazität von acht Gigawattstunden pro Jahr erlaubt. Das Werk hatte bereits im dritten Quartal 2021 mit der Modulproduktion in einem anderen Gebäude begonnen. Mit einer Gesamtinvestition von bis zu 1,8 Milliarden Euro plant CATL, eine Produktionskapazität von 14 Gigawattstunden zu erreichen und insgesamt bis zu 2.000 neue Arbeitsplätze in Deutschland zu schaffen.
