Die BMW Group möchte eine Pilotanlage zur Fertigung von Feststoffbatterien in Deutschland errichten. Das geht aus einer Mitteilung des unter anderem von BMW unterstützten Feststoffbatterie-Spezialisten Solid Power hervor, von dem das entsprechende Anlagendesign stammen soll. BMW ist im Besitz einer Forschungs- und Entwicklungslizenz des US-amerikanischen Unternehmens.
20 Millionen Dollar bis Mitte 2024
Die erweiterte Entwicklungsvereinbarung umfasse eine gemeinsame Nutzung von proprietärem Know-how in der Herstellung von Feststoffelektroden und -zellen. Das geistige Eigentum im Hinblick auf Elektrolytmaterial umfasst diese Vereinbarung jedoch nicht und verbleibt somit bei Solid Power. Sobald die Pilotanlage betriebsbereit ist, werde Solid Power den Autobauer mit Elektrolytmaterial beliefern. Bis Mitte 2024 zahlt BMW dem Abkommen zufolge 20 Millionen US-Dollar, sofern die gemeinsam festgehaltenen Meilensteine erreicht werden.
Sulfidbasiertes Elektrolyt für ASSB-Zellen
Solid Power verfügt über eine Pilotproduktionslinie in den USA und setzt auf einen sulfidbasierten Elektrolyten für die Zellen von All-Solid-State-Batterien (ASSB). Anodenseitig soll dabei Silizium zum Einsatz kommen. Das Unternehmen setzt zudem auf eine herkömmliche Nickel-Mangan-Cobalt (NMC)-Kathode.
