Der chinesische Konzern Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery hat innerhalb kurzer Zeit den Bau einer zweiten Gigafabrik in China bekanntgegeben. Nach der Ankündigung eines Werks in Yichang City vor wenigen Tagen bestätigte der Batteriehersteller nun Planungen einer weiteren Fertigungsstätte für die Stadt Yiwu. Im ersten Schritt soll eine Produktionslinie mit einer Jahreskapazität von 30 Gigawattstunden entstehen. Eine zweite Linie soll den Gesamt-Output später auf 50 Gigawattstunden steigern.

Massive Investitionen zeigen bereits Wirkung

Neben Zellen möchte Sunwoda an dem neuen Standort in der chinesischen Provinz Zhejiang auch fertige Module, Batteriepacks und ganze Systeme produzieren. Der Konzern habe seit März 2021 rund 110 Milliarden Yuan – umgerechnet etwa 15,8 Milliarden Euro – investiert. Dies spiegelt sich mittlerweile in Statistiken zu Marktanteilen der Batterieproduktion wider. Daten der „China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance“ zufolge hat Sunwoda sich mit Stand von August 2022 mit einem Anteil von 2,88 Prozent mittlerweile auf den fünften Platz der chinesischen Zellproduzenten hochgearbeitet – hinter CATL (46,79 Prozent), BYD (21,91 Prozent), CALB (5,62 Prozent) und Gotion High-Tech (4,76 Prozent).
