Freyr Battery mit Sitz in Luxemburg und die Nidec Corporation aus Japan wollen ein Joint Venture (JV) für Batterie-Speichersysteme gründen. Das gaben die beiden Unternehmen ebenso bekannt wie eine Vereinbarung zur Lieferung von Freyr-Batteriezellen mit einer Kapazität von 38 Gigawattstunden für den Zeitraum von 2025 bis 2030. Nidec als Hersteller von Batteriespeichern und Elektromotoren soll die Mehrheitsbeteiligung an dem Joint Venture besitzen.
Hälfte der Produktionskapazität für stationäre Speicher
Im Rahmen des verbindlichen Abkommens soll Freyr an Nidec Batteriezellen der nächsten Generation liefern, die aus der noch im Bau befindlichen „Giga Arctic“-Anlage von Freyr im norwegischen Mo i Rana stammen. Auf Basis der prognostizierten Lithium-Preise entsprechen die vertraglich vereinbarten Mengen einem voraussichtlichen Gesamtumsatz von mehr als drei Milliarden Euro. Nidec verfüge über eine Option, die kumulierten Abnahmemengen während der Vertragslaufzeit auf 50 Gigawattstunden zu erhöhen, was bis zu 50 Prozent der geplanten Produktion von Freyrs „Giga Arctic“-Entwicklung entsprechen würde.
