Einer aktuellen Analyse des Marktforschungsunternehmens BloombergNEF zufolge sind die Kosten für Lithium-Ionen-Batteriesysteme 2021 gegenüber dem Vorjahr gesunken. Im Durchschnitt seien die Preise um sechs Prozent auf 132 US-Dollar pro Kilowattstunde gefallen. Bei Elektrofahrzeugen lagen sie laut der Untersuchung sogar noch unter dem Marktdurchschnitt bei 118 Dollar und auf Zellebene bei 97 Dollar.
Auch E-Busse und stationäre Speicher betrachtet
In die Analyse waren mehrere Endanwendungen für Batteriesysteme eingeflossen. Neben den vielbeachteten Batteriepacks für Elektroautos wurden auch die Kosten für Batterien in Elektrobussen und bei stationären Speichern berücksichtigt. Die fortscheidende Reduktion des Preises für Batteriesysteme führt Bloomberg vor allem auf zwei Faktoren zurück.
Hohe Innovationskraft und günstigere Zellchemien
Zum einen führe die Innovationskraft, die sich im Bereich der Lithium-Ionen-Batterieproduktion weiter beschleunige, zu effizienteren und kostenoptimierten Herstellungsprozessen, zum anderen machten die immer häufiger verwendeten günstigeren Zellchemien – wie im Falle der LFP-Akkus – die Kilowattstunde erschwinglicher. Zum Vergleich: Im Jahr 2010 lag der Preis noch bei 1.200 US-Dollar.
Batteriesystempreis: 82 Prozent entfallen auf Zellen
Mit Blick auf Elektrofahrzeuge offenbart die Studie außerdem, dass die Zellen derzeit 82 Prozent des Gesamtpreises der Batteriesysteme ausmachen. Vor zwei Jahren lag dieses Verhältnis noch bei 70 Prozent. Maßgeblich seien dafür die zahlreichen Entwicklungen hinsichtlich eines Cell-to-Pack-Ansatzes verantwortlich, der die Zwischenstufe von Batteriemodulen schrittweise überflüssig mache und somit Kosten spare.
Kommt 2024 der Wendepunkt?
Eine fortlaufende Entwicklung und gezielte Umfragen im Batteriesektor vorausgesetzt, sagt die Studie voraus, dass sich der durchschnittliche Preis für Batteriepacks bis zum Jahr 2024 auf 100 Dollar pro Kilowattstunde reduziere. Da Batterien heute die mit Abstand teuerste Komponente von Elektrofahrzeugen darstellen, kommt dieser Entwicklung besondere Bedeutung zu. Laut der Studie sind die Automobilhersteller ab der 100-Dollar-Marke in der Lage, elektrische Modelle auf gleichem Kostenniveau wie heutige Fahrzeuge mit Verbrennungsmotoren anzubieten.
