Das von Amazon und Ford unterstützte e-Auto Start-Up Rivian, hat Samsung SDI als Zulieferer seiner Batteriezellen bekannt gegeben. Rivian sagt, dass es zusammen mit Samsung SDI die passenden Batterien für seine elektrischen Pickup und SUV Modelle entwickelte hätte und zeigt sich begeistert in Bezug auf die Leistungsdaten der hergestellten Systeme.

Rivian plant insgesamt drei verschiedene Batteriesysteme für seine Elektromobilitätsflotte zu bauen, die sich in der jeweiligen Leistungsstufe unterscheiden sollen. Einstiegssysteme auf Basis der jetzt entwickelten Batterie sollen bei 105 kWh beginnen, während die beiden leistungsstärkeren Systeme auf 135 und 180 kWh kommen sollen (zum Vergleich: Teslas aktuell größte Model S Batterie kommt auf 100 kWh). Schon die mittlere Batteriegröße soll ausreichend sein die relativ großen Fahrzeugmodelle von Rivian auf 480 km Reichweite zu bringen. Die große 180 kWh Batterie, die ab dem Jahr 2022 auf den Markt kommt, soll die Reichweit nochmal auf insgesamt 640 km erhöhen.

In Zusammenarbeit mit Amazon stellt Rivian schon im Februar dieses Jahres einen ersten batterieelektrischen Lieferwagen vor. Das Fahrzeug wird aktuell auf ausgewählten Strecken von Amazon getestet.
