Das Festköperbatterie Unternehmen QuantumScape, in welches VW im vergangen Jahr 200 Millionen Euro investiert hatte, hat diese Woche die Ausgabe von 13 Millionen neuen Unternehmensaktien angekündigt. Mit den so neu gewonnen Mitteln plant QuantumScape die erst im Februar angekündigte Pilotlinie für Festkörperbatterien, QS-0, in ihrem Produktions-Volumen zu verdoppeln, während parallel eine weitere Pilotanlage QS-1 zeitnah entstehen soll.
QuantumScape, dass auch in Verbindung mit Apples Plänen ein eigenes Auto zu entwickeln gebracht wird, entwickelt sich somit, trotz der allgemein noch vorhandenen Unsicherheit in Bezug auf die Massenmarkt Tauglichkeit der Festkörperbatterietechnik, zu einem markanten Namen im Bereich der Festkörperbatterietechnik, die unter anderem auch von Samsung SDI und Toyota verfolgt wird.
Aktuell Zieldefinition von QuantumScape ist es, auch durch die massiven Investitionen, erste Festkörperbatterien ab dem Jahr 2023 zu produzieren, die sich durch eine sowohl hohe Speicherkapazität als auch schnelle Ladegeschwindigkeit auszeichnen sollen und ganze 80% mehr Reichweite liefern würden.
Um dies zu erreichen basieren die Zellen darauf, dass sie keinen flüssigen Elektrolyten benötigen, sondern eine feste Lithium-Ionen-leitfähige Trennschicht aufweisen. Zudem benötigen die Zellen keine klassische Anode aus Graphit, da sich reines Lithium im geladenen Zustand an der Anode sammelt und diese damit ausbildet. Da lange Zeit vor allem die mangelnde Zyklenfestigkeit der Festkörperbatterietechnik sehr zusetzte, hat QuantumScape nach eigenen Aussagen bereits 10 Jahre an der Technologie entwickelt, um diese auf den heutigen Stand zu bringen und die vorhandenen technologischen Hürden zu überwinden.
