Erst Anfang Februar präsentierten wir Ihnen die aktualisierte Übersicht über die Batteriezellfertigungsprojekte in Europa und spekulierten, dass auch in diesem Jahr wohl noch zahlreiche Batterieprojekte angekündigt würden. Heute, keine zwei Wochen später, bestätigt sich unsere Vermutung. Denn mit dem neu gegründeten Unternehmen Italvolt platziert sich ein weiterer Name auf der europäischen Batterielandkarte.
Hinter Italvolt steht, ebenso wie beim englischen Britishvolt, der Gründer Lars Carlstrom, der mit seinem Vorhaben auch in Italien wieder Impulse für eine erste Gigafactory des Landes setzt. Geplant sei demnach eine anfängliche Kapazität von 45 GWh, die nach einer ersten Projektphase ab dem Jahr 2024 zur Verfügung stehen soll. Später sei der Ausbau der Kapazitäten auf 70 GWh möglich. Für den neuen Batteriestandort sollen ca. 4 Milliarden Euro in den italienischen Batteriestandort fließen (bei Britishvolt stehen aktuell 3 Milliarden Euro im Gespräch) und circa 4.000 Arbeitsplätze entstehen. Erste Partner des Vorhabens stehen auch schon bereit. Das Unternehmen Comau, eine Tochter von Stellantis, soll Robotertechnik für den künftigen Standort liefern. Im Gegensatz dazu jedoch aktuell noch unklar ist zum einen die genaue Standortwahl und zum anderen welche Zellen produziert werden sollen.
