Der koreanische Batteriezellproduzent SK Innovation hat den Bau der dritten Batteriezellfertigung in Ungarn beschlossen. Im Gegensatz zu den ersten zwei Zellproduktionen, die am Standort Komárom beheimatet sind und von denen die zweite aktuell auch noch gebaut wird, entsteht die dritte Zellfertigung in Iváncsa nahe Budapest. Eine Kapazität von 30 GWh ist geplant.

Es ist noch nicht einmal der zweite Batteriezellfabrik Neubau in Ungarn abgeschlossen, da beschließt SK Innovation bereits eine dritte Fabrik zu bauen. Unterstreichen tut diese Meldung der Koreaner, mit welchem Druck die europäischen Produktionsstätten, von einer Vielzahl von Akteuren, umgesetzt werden. 1,9 Milliarden Euro für 30 GWh Produktionsleistung soll die neue Batteriezellfertigung von SK Innovation kosten und obwohl der Baustart schon für das dritte Quartal 2021 geplant ist, verwundert der späte, geplante Fertigstellungstermin des Werks im Jahr 2028. In der Regel hat sich bei vergleichbaren Projekten in der nahen Vergangenheit oft ein Fertigstellungszeitraum von 2 – 4 Jahren gezeigt.

Mit seiner Expansionspolitik verfolgt SK Innovation zum einen das Ziel die globale Batterieproduktionskapazitäten auf mindestens 125 GWh pro Jahr bis 2025 auszubauen und zum anderen, die europäischen Marktanteile weiter abzusichern. SK Innovation schätzt dabei, dass allein der Bedarf der Batteriezellkapazitäten in Europa bis zum Jahr 2025 von aktuell 41 GWh auf 256 GWh ansteigen wird.
