Das neu gegründete, norwegische Unternehmen Morrow Batteries plant eine Gigafactory im norwegischen Landesbezirk Agder und hiermit die erste Fabrik dieser Art in dem skandinavischen Vorreiterland der Elektromobilität. Die Arbeiten am neuen Standort der Batterieproduktion sollen nach Plan im nächsten Jahr beginnen.
Morrow Batteries, als gemeinschaftliche Gründung der norwegischen Unternehmen Adger Energi, NOAH AS und Bellona, will langfristig eine jährliche Produktionsleistung von 32 GWh auf 4 gleichen Linien mit jeweils 8 GWh Jahresproduktion erreichen. Der erste der vier Abschnitt soll zum Jahr 2024 in Betrieb gehen und auf bestehender Batteriezellentechnologie basieren. Die folgenden drei Bereiche sollen mit der „Batteriezellentechnologie der nächsten Generation“ betrieben werden und dem Standort Innovativität bringen.
Neben der reinen Batteriezellfertigung soll auch ein Forschungszentrum für Batterietechnik an der Produktionsstätte aufgebaut werden, an welchen sich zahlreiche weitere Partner, wie das norwegische Forschungsinstitut SINTEF, beteiligen wollen.
Zum kommenden Vorhaben, der ersten norwegischen Gigafactory, sagt der Investor und NOAH AS Eigentümer Bjørn Rune Gjelsten: „Die Batterieproduktion wird bald zu einer neuen globalen Großindustrie. Norwegen hat einen doppelten Wettbewerbsvorteil, weil wir bereits über erstklassige Prozessindustrien verfügen und Zugang zu sauberer Energie und einer starken Forschungsumgebung haben. Dies ist sowohl als Investition als auch als Beitrag zur Entwicklung klimafreundlicher Technologien sinnvoll”.
