Die BMW Group Thailand eröffnet in Zusammenarbeit mit der DRÄXLMAIER Group, einem der führenden Automobilzulieferer, einen Hochvolt-Batterieproduktionsstandort in Thailand. Mit dieser Eröffnung erreicht BMW einen historischen Meilenstein, der die Elektrifizierung für BMW und die nachhaltige Mobilität für Thailand antreiben soll. Die Modulmontage als auch die Zellherstellung können durch die Produktionsstätte realisiert werden. Die Hochvoltbatterie ist ein zentrales Element von teil- und vollelektrischen Fahrzeugen und gilt als eine hoch entwickelte Komponente, die besondere Fähigkeiten bei der Herstellung erfordert. Für die Planung der Produktionsstätte haben Mitarbeiter der DRÄXLMAIER-Gruppe in Deutschland an einem Trainingsprogramm von BMW teilgenommen und wurden entsprechend zu Batterien geschult. Inhalt des Programms waren weiterhin modernste Fertigungstechnologien wie Laserschweißen, Plasmaaktivierung, Robotik, Kleben, automatisierte optische und elektrische Inline-Qualitätsprüfung sowie End-of-Line-Tests.

Die gefertigten Batterien werden im Werk Rayong in BMW 5er Plug-in Hybridfahrzeugen verbaut. Nachdem der thailändische Investitionsausschuss (BoI) der BMW Group Thailand bereits früher Anreize für Investitionen in Höhe von 700 Millionen Baht in die Produktion von BMW Plug-in-Hybrid-Elektrofahrzeugen (PHEV) genehmigt hatte, hat das Unternehmen gemeinsam mit der DRÄXLMAIER Group in dieses Batteriemontagewerk im Wert von 500 Millionen Baht investiert. Die Fabrik soll im Bereich der Elektromobilität die thailändische Automobilindustrie weiter stärken.
