Der Batterie-Rohstofferzeuger Australian Mines Ltd. hat nach eigenen Angaben eine Abnahmevereinbarung von batterietauglichem Kobalt und Nickelsulfat mit dem südkoreanischen Batteriehersteller SK Innovation abgeschlossen. Demnach sollen die gesamten Erzeugnisse des Flagschiffs Sconi Cobalt-Nickel-Scandium Project in North Queensland an das südkoreanische Unternehmen gehen. Die Vereinbarung gelte sieben Jahre und könne bei beiderlei Einverständnis um sechs weitere Jahre verlängert werden, so Australian Mines. Vorausgegangen war eine vorläufige Vereinbarung der beiden Unternehmen im März 2018. Die vereinbarten Verkaufspreise richten sich an den Nickelpreis der London Metal Exchange und dem Kobaltpreis des Metal Bulletin, ließ Australian Mines verlauten. Im Mai waren wurde die Hoffnung geäußert, 935 Millionen Dollar für ein Batteriematerialwerk zu beschaffen. Jedoch würden volatile Preise die Kreditvergabe erschweren.
