Der schwedische Batteriezellenhersteller Northvolt zieht gemeinsam mit seiner Tochtergesellschaft Cuberg eine Zellfertigung in Kanada in Erwägung. Laut einem Bericht von „Electric Autonomy Canada“ haben die Unternehmen bereits zwei Standorte in die engere Auswahl genommen. Konkret seien die Stadt Saint-Basile-Le-Grand und die Gemeinde McMasterville jeweils in der Provinz Quebec im Gespräch.

Rückt Northvolt von Heide ab?

Im vergangenen Oktober hatte Northvolt-CEO Peter Carlsson angemerkt, dass sich der Bau der Fabrik im schleswig-holsteinischen Heide verzögern könnte. „Wir wollen weiter ein europäischer Champion und Marktführer sein. Aber wir sind jetzt an einem Punkt, an dem wir möglicherweise der Expansion in den USA zunächst Vorrang gegenüber Europa geben“, hieß es damals wörtlich.
