Die BMW Group will in Straßkirchen und Irlbach im Landkreis Straubing-Bogen ein neues Montagewerk für Hochvoltbatterien errichten. Laut einer offiziellen Mitteilung des Konzerns sollen die Batterien anschließend in den Werken in München, Dingolfing und Regensburg in die künftige Generation der „NEW CLASS“-Fahrzeuge eingebaut werden. Der Baubeginn für das neue Werk ist für das Jahr 2024 geplant.
Bekenntnis zum Standort Bayern
Im Februar 2023 hatte BMW die für das Projekt notwendigen Grundstücke im Bereich der beiden Gemeinden Straßkirchen und Irlbach erworben. Einer der wesentlichen Entscheidungsfaktoren sei die gute logistische Anbindung an die bayerischen Werke des Unternehmens gewesen. Das neue Gelände umfasst eine Fläche von rund 105 Hektar, wovon zunächst 60 Hektar als Produktionsstandort für Hochvoltbatterien vorgesehen seien. In den kommenden Monaten sollen die behördlichen Genehmigungsverfahren einschließlich der Änderung des Flächennutzungsplans und der Aufstellung eines Bebauungsplans durchlaufen werden.
