Der finnische Bergbaukonzern Keliber will noch vor Weihnachten 2022 mit dem Bau einer Lithiumhydroxid-Raffinerie im „Kokkola Industrial Park“ beginnen. Der Produktionsstart der Anlage, die auf einem Areal von 20.000 Quadratmetern entsteht, ist für das Jahr 2025 geplant. Eigenen Angaben zufolge investiert das Unternehmen 588 Millionen Euro in das Vorhaben.

Bau weiterer Anlagen startet nach erteilten Umweltgenehmigungen

Zusätzlich zur Raffinerie sollen im Rahmen des Projekts eine Konzentrationsanlage und mehrere Förderstätten entstehen. Die Genehmigungen stehen derzeit noch aus. Sofort nach ihrem Erhalt könne Keliber mit den entsprechenden Bauarbeiten beginnen. Nach Fertigstellung der Raffinerie soll dort ein Jahresvolumen von 15.000 Tonnen Lithiumhydroxid-Monohydrat für die Batterieproduktion hergestellt werden. Perspektivisch wolle Keliber das Werk mit eigens aus Lithium-Erz gewonnenen Spodumen-Mineralien versorgen. Weil da die dafür benötigte Konzentrationsanlage jedoch erst später in Betrieb genommen werden könne, solle in der Anlaufphase noch entsprechendes Material zugekauft werden.
