Der deutsche Zellproduzent Varta hat seinen geplanten Aufbau einer Batteriefabrik für Elektrofahrzeuge aus finanziellen Gründen vorerst gestoppt. In einer offiziellen Mitteilung des Unternehmens werden globale Krisen und die daraus resultierenden Energie- und Rohstoffpreise sowie pandemiebedingte Produktionsunterbrechungen auf Kundenseite als Begründung genannt. Der Bau der Produktionslinien für die V4Drive-Zellen soll erst nach verbindlichen Kundenzusagen fortgesetzt werden.

Pilotproduktion Ende 2021 gestartet

Zur Erfüllung existierender Aufträge werde das Unternehmen weiterhin die Pilotline verwenden, um die Kunden mit Zellen zu beliefern. Im April 2021 hatte Varta die 21700er Rundzelle „V4Drive“ für die Elektromobilität vorgestellt. Die Pilotproduktion war zum Ende des Jahres angelaufen und sollte bis 2023 zur Massenproduktion skaliert werden. Laut Berechnungen wurden mindestens zwei bis drei Gigawattstunden angestrebt.
