Der Bau der Gigafactory des schwedischen Zellherstellers Northvolt in Heide in Schleswig-Holstein scheint durch die hohen Energiepreise ausgebremst zu werden. „Mit den aktuellen Strompreisen sehen wir die Wirtschaftlichkeit von energieintensiven Projekten in Deutschland gefährdet“, sagte Northvolt-CEO Peter Carlsson in einem Interview mit der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung. Eine Entscheidung sei noch offen, allerdings halte Northvolt derzeit nach einem alternativen Standort Ausschau. Das Unternehmen befinde sich in intensiven Gesprächen mit der Bundes- und Landesregierung.
USA als starke Konkurrenz
Aktuell werden Zellfertigungen in den USA stark gefördert, so dass einige Unternehmen den Aufbau von Kapazitäten in Nordamerika erwägen. Insidern zufolge ist die Äußerung von Carlsson zu einem Standort in den USA daher nicht überraschend. „Wir wollen weiterhin ein europäischer Champion und Marktführer sein“, erklärte der Northvolt-CEO: „Aber wir sind jetzt an einem Punkt, an dem wir möglicherweise der Expansion in den USA zunächst Vorrang gegenüber Europa geben.“ Schleswig-Holsteins Ministerpräsident Daniel Günther versichert jedoch, dass die Northvolt-Ansiedlung das Ziel aller Beteiligten bleibe. Auch das Unternehmen habe bereits angekündigt, weiter zum Standort Heide zu halten und diesen realisieren zu wollen.
