Das US-amerikanische Unternehmen EnPower hat in Indianapolis seine erste Produktionsstätte für schnellladefähige Batterien eröffnet. Die Anlage dient der Herstellung von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien der nächsten Generation. Der 8.500 Quadratmeter große Fertigungsstandort ging mit einer anfänglichen Kapazität von 800 Megawattstunden in Betrieb und soll zeitnah auf mehr als eine Gigawattstunde steigen.

Schnellladungen ohne Akku-Abnutzung

Die Mehrschichttechnologie von EnPower hatte Aufmerksamkeit erregt, weil sie wiederholte Schnellladungen ohne schädliche Batterieabnutzung oder Beeinträchtigung der Leistung und Energiedichte ermöglichen soll. Das erzielt das Unternehmen eigenen Angaben zufolge unter anderem durch unterschiedlich poröse Schichten in der der Beschichtung.
