Der belgische Materialtechnologie- und Recycling-Konzern Umicore mit fünf Standorten in Deutschland und der internationale Verbund „Automotive Cells Company“ (ACC) haben eine langfristige Liefervereinbarung zu Batteriematerial für Elektrofahrzeuge getroffen. Umicore soll künftig die europäischen Großbatteriewerke des gemeinsamen Unternehmens von Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz und TotalEnergies mit hochnickelhaltigen Kathodenmaterialien aus einer neuen Produktionsanlage im polnischen Nysa beliefern.
Gestaffelte Liefermengen
In dem Abkommen ist eine jährliche Liefermenge von zunächst 13 Gigawattstunden enthalten. Für Anfang 2024 wird das erste kommerzielle Volumen erwartet. In einer offiziellen Mitteilung betonen beide Konzerne ihre Ambitionen, die Zusammenarbeit noch zu erweitern und die jährlichen Lieferungen bis 2030 auf mindestens 46 Gigawattstunden hochzufahren.
ACC-Fabriken in Frankreich, Deutschland, Italien
ACC lässt derzeit sowohl in Frankreich als auch in Deutschland Gigafabriken zur Batterieproduktion errichten; zudem wurden vor Kurzem Pläne für eine weitere Gigafactory in Italien angekündigt. ACC-CEO Yann Vincent zufolge bestärkt das Abkommen mit Umicore den Verbund in seinem Bestreben, europäischer Marktführer für Elektrofahrzeugbatterien zu werden. Die neue Partnerschaft ergänzt eine vorangegangene Vereinbarung der beiden Konzerne, gemäß der Umicore das Recycling von Abfällen der Batterieproduktion aus französischen Prüfeinrichtungen von ACC übernehmen soll.
