Der Zellhersteller Kore Power mit Hauptsitz in den USA hat ein Grundstück für seine geplante Zwölf-Gigawattstunden-Batteriefabrik erworben. Das Areal soll 2,14 Quadratkilometer groß sein und sich im US-Bundesstaat Arizona befinden. Bis Jahresmitte soll mit dem Bau begonnen worden sein. Kore Power möchte bis Ende 2024 weltweit insgesamt 18 Gigawattstunden jährlicher Speicherkapazität produzieren.
Gründung von Recycling-Unternehmen
Derzeit stellt das Unternehmen Batterien sowohl mit LFP- als auch mit NMC-Kathode für Elektrofahrzeuge und stationäre Speicher in China her. Arizona gilt als einer der sonnigsten Bundesstaaten der USA, weshalb Kore Power laut CEO Lindsay Gorrill erwägt, sich eigenständig und gänzlich über Solarstrom zu versorgen und Energie ins Netz einzuspeisen. Außerdem wolle Kore Power Recycling-Unternehmen in der Nähe ansiedeln, um eine zirkuläre, ganzheitliche Wertschöpfungskette für die Batterieproduktion aufzubauen.
