Der Nickelpreis ist am gestrigen Dienstag erneut gestiegen und lag zeitweise bei mehr als 100.000 US-Dollar pro Tonne. Das Metall wird vor allem für die Veredelung von Stahl benötigt, ist aber auch zentraler Bestandteil in Elektrofahrzeug-Batterien, sowohl im Aktivmaterial als auch beim Zellgehäuse. Experten machen den Russland-Ukraine-Krieg und die Reaktionen an der Börse für die gestiegenen Kosten verantwortlich.

Verwerfung an den Rohstoffmärkten

Grund für den drastischen Anstieg sei der Angriffskrieg von Russland auf die Ukraine und die daraus resultierende Verwerfung an den Rohstoffmärkten. Seit 7. März hat sich der Nickelpreis in der Spitze mehr als verdreifacht. Aus diesem Grund wird der Handel von Nickel an der Londoner Rohstoffbörse bereits ausgesetzt.

Sanktionen und Börsenspekulationen

Experten zufolge sind zwei Dynamiken für die gestiegenen Kosten verantwortlich. Zum einen ist Russland einer der weltweit größten Nickel-Exporteure, so dass durch die Sanktionen bedingt Lieferengpässe erwartbar seien. Zum anderen gebe es Spekulationen und sich daraus ergebende Leerverkäufe an der Börse.
