Die „Finnish Minerals Group“ plant den Bau einer Batteriezellenfabrik in der heimischen Stadt Kotka. Das Unternehmen hat eigenen Angaben zufolge eine Absichtserklärung mit einem potenziellen Partner für das Projekt unterzeichnet. Seine vollständige Tochtergesellschaft, die Finnish Battery Chemicals Oy, beginne nun mit den Vorbereitungen für das Verfahren zur Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung für die Gigafactory.

Laufende Gespräche mit Technologiepartner

Im Rahmen des Verfahrens sollen zwei Optionen für die Umsetzung des Projekts mit einer jährlichen Gesamtkapazität von 27 und 40 Gigawattstunden geprüft werden. Die Gespräche mit dem Technologiepartner über die Investition in Kotka sollen bereits seit einiger Zeit laufen. Obwohl der Partner noch keine endgültige Entscheidung über den Standort der Zellfabrik getroffen habe, sei man hoch motiviert, das Projekt in Kotka unterzubringen, erklärt Matti Hietanen, CEO der Finnish Minerals Group.

Kotka bietet Areal für Vorhaben an

Die Stadtverwaltung von Kotka habe für das Projekt eine Fläche von etwa 140 Hektar im Industriegebiet Keltakallio angeboten, heißt es. Dieser Standort grenzt an die geplante CAM-Anlage im selben Areal. Die Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung soll bis zum Sommer 2024 abgeschlossen sein. In der Zwischenzeit würden die Verhandlungen mit dem Technologiepartner fortgesetzt.
