Das Unternehmen Rock Tech Lithium hat in Guben im Landkreis Spree-Neiße den ersten Spatenstich für seine neue Lithium-Fabrik vollzogen. Der deutsch-kanadische Rohstoff-Konzern errichtet dort eine Konverteranlage zur Herstellung von batteriefähigem Lithiumhydroxid für den Einsatz in der Elektromobilität.
Prominente Nachbarn in Brandenburg
Die Gesamtinvestition für das Batteriewerk beträgt laut Angaben des Unternehmens rund 650 Millionen Euro. Die Inbetriebnahme und der Hochlauf des Lithiumkonverters werden für 2025 und die Produktion von Lithiumhydroxid in Batteriequalität für Anfang 2026 erwartet. Rock Tech plane, bis zum Jahr 2030 rund 50 Prozent der Rohstoffe aus dem Recycling von Altbatterien zu gewinnen. Mit der Anlage im Batterie-Ökosystem reiht sich Rock Tech in die Liste namhafter Unternehmen wie Tesla, Microvast oder BASF ein, die bereits in Brandenburg agieren.
Kooperation mit Mercedes-Benz
Einer der Abnehmer des Materials werde Mercedes-Benz sein. Die strategische Partnerschaft des deutschen Autobauers mit Rock Tech Lithium war bereits während eines deutsch-kanadischen Gipfels Ende August 2022 angekündigt worden.
