Das US-amerikanische Chemieunternehmen Cabot hat Pläne bekannt gegeben ein Technologiezentrum in Münster errichten zu wollen. Das Zentrum soll sich auf das Beschleunigen von Anwendungsinnovationen für Batteriematerialien fokussieren und die technische Zusammenarbeit mit Kunden optimieren.

Cabot verfügt bereits über eine Produktionslinie für Kohlenstoffadditive in Europa. Dies umfasst nach Angaben des Konzerns Kohlenstoff-Nanoröhren und Kohlenstoff-Nanostrukturen. Das EMEA-Technologiezentrum soll dazu beitragen, Entwicklungszeiten sowie umfangreiche Test und Erprobungen in Europa anzubieten.

Forschungslandschaft Münster entscheidend bei Standortwahl

„Das neue Labor mit seiner unmittelbaren Nähe zu mehreren der führenden Batterieforschungseinrichtungen, lokalen Universitäten und anderen Technologieunternehmen in Europa, bietet uns einen erstklassigen Standort, um ein Ökosystem für die Zusammenarbeit aufzubauen und talentierte Wissenschaftler und Ingenieure anzuziehen“, sagt Patricia Hubbard, Senior Vice President und Chief Technology Officer. Neben der Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle (FFB) der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft ist auch das MEET-Batterieforschungszentrum der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität in Münster ansässig.
