Der US-amerikanische Batteriezellen-Entwickler Amprius Technologies will eine Gigafactory für die unternehmenseigene Siliziumanoden-Technologie errichten. Die Fabrik soll in Brighton im US-Bundesstaat Colorado entstehen, 2025 eine Jahreskapazität von zunächst bis zu 500 Megawattstunden produzieren und später auf bis zu fünf Gigawattstunden erweitert werden.

Ausbau auf zehn Gigawattstunden

Langfristig sei gar ein Ausbau auf bis zu zehn Gigawattstunden möglich, heißt es in einer offiziellen Mitteilung von Amprius. Das Unternehmen hatte im vergangenen Jahr die ersten Zellen mit Silizium in Form von vertikalen Nanostäbchen als Anodenmaterial für die Anwendung in Satelliten ausgeliefert. Zur selben Zeit hatte Amprius nach einem Standort für eine Gigafactory gesucht, die auch Elektrofahrzeuge ausstatten sollte.
