Honda und LG Energy Solution haben den ersten Spatenstich für ihr gemeinschaftliches Batteriewerk im US-Bundesstaat Ohio gesetzt. Die Anlage soll bis Ende 2024 fertiggestellt werden, rund 2.200 Arbeitsplätze schaffen und eine jährliche Produktionskapazität von etwa 40 Gigawattstunden erreichen.

Produktion von Pouchzellen exklusiv für Honda

Der Standort des Joint Ventures zwischen Honda und LG war im Oktober 2022 bekanntgegeben und am 12. Januar 2023 formell besiegelt worden. Auf einer Fläche von 185.000 Quadratmetern soll dort bis Ende 2025 die Massenproduktion von Pouchzellen beginnen. Sie sollen ausschließlich an Honda-Automobilwerke geliefert und in Elektrofahrzeugen für den nordamerikanischen Markt verbaut werden. Die beiden Unternehmen hatten sich auf eine Investition von 3,5 Milliarden US-Dollar für die neue Anlage geeinigt, wobei sich die Gesamtinvestition auf 4,4 Milliarden Dollar belaufen soll.
