Der US-Batteriehersteller Nanotech Energy prüft laut einer offiziellen Mitteilung sieben Standorte in Großbritannien für eine neue Gigafactory im Wert von umgerechnet 1,14 Milliarden Euro. Die endgültige Entscheidung, die auf Basis technischer Aspekte und strategischer Absprachen mit OEM-Partnern getroffen werde, würde das Vereinigte Königreich zu einer zweiten Heimat für die Produktion von Nanotech Energy machen.

„Dramatische Beschleunigung“

„Nach mehr als sieben Jahren Forschung und Entwicklung gehören unsere nicht entflammbaren Lithium-Ionen-Batterien zu den sichersten und umweltfreundlichsten Optionen auf dem Markt“, wird Dr. Jack Kavanaugh, Vorsitzender, CEO und Mitbegründer von Nanotech Energy, in der Unternehmensmitteilung zitiert. Die Akkus böten zudem deutlich bessere Aufladegeschwindigkeiten und größere Speicherkapazitäten als herkömmliche Batterien. Die Pläne von Nanotech Energy würden „den Fortschritt des britischen Elektrofahrzeugsektors dramatisch beschleunigen“, sagt Kavanaugh.
