QuantumScape hat seine ersten 24-schichtigen Prototyp-Lithium-Metall-Batteriezellen zu Testzwecken an Automobil-OEMs gegeben. Die Auslieferung dieser Zellen, die als A0-Muster bezeichnet werden, gilt als bedeutender Schritt auf dem Weg zur Kommerzialisierung der Technologie. Mit 24 Schichten, die jeweils aus einem Feststoffseparator, einer Kathode und einer in-situ-geformten Lithium-Metall-Anode bestehen, verfügen diese Prototypzellen über Kapazitäten im Multi-Ampere-Stunden-Bereich. QuantumScape zufolge ist das Produkt damit für zahlreiche Anwendungen einschließlich der Automobil- und Unterhaltungselektronik relevant.

Optimierungen in den kommenden Jahren

Die OEMs können nun den Testprozess in ihren Anlagen beginnen und Rückmeldungen zur Leistung der Zellen geben. QuantumScape gehe davon aus, in den kommenden Jahren mit den nachfolgenden Generationen von A-, B- und C-Mustern Verbesserungen etwa im Hinblick auf die Kathodenkapazität zu erzielen.

Neues Zellformat für Feststoffbatterie

Die A0-Zellen wurden in QuantumScapes neuem Zellformat gebaut. Die neue Architektur ist eine Mischung aus prismatischen Zellen und Pouch-Zellen, die die einachsige Ausdehnung und Kontraktion des Lithium-Metalls während des Ladens und Entladens unterstützen soll. Das Unternehmen plane, 2023 eine virtuelle Veranstaltung abzuhalten, in der es weitere Informationen zum neuen Zellformat geben soll.
