Die EAS Batteries GmbH mit Sitz in Nordhausen hat BMW bei der Entwicklung seiner ersten eigenen zylindrischen Batteriezelle assistiert. Dabei handelt es sich um großformatige Rundzellen mit einem Durchmesser von 46 Millimetern, die BMW im vergangenen September angekündigt hatte. Zur Entwicklung von Zellen für den Einsatz in Elektrofahrzeugen der Automobilkonzern ein „Forschungszentrum Batteriezelle“ aufgebaut.

Deutliche Verkürzung der Entwicklungszeit

Der Thüringer Batteriespezialist EAS assistierte BMW sowohl bei mechanischen als auch bei elektrochemischen Fragestellungen. „EAS Batteries hat uns in der frühen Phase der Entwicklung der Rundzelle zum Beispiel durch die Bereitstellung von Prototypzellen hervorragend unterstützt und die Entwicklungszeit deutlich verkürzt“, sagt Peter Lamp, Leiter „Technologie Batteriezelle“ der BMW Group.

Weitere Zusammenarbeit geplant

Die Partnerschaft der beiden Unternehmen soll demnächst fortgesetzt werden. So wolle BMW mit dem „Tabless Contacting“ eine patentierte Kontaktierungstechnologie von EAS lizenzieren, die die Hochstromfähigkeit des neuen BMW-Zelldesigns absichern soll.
