Der Batteriehersteller „China Lithium Battery Technology“ (CALB) hat den Standort seiner ersten europäischen Fertigung bekanntgegeben. Die Zellfabrik soll im Hafen von Sines in Portugal errichtet werden und in der ersten Ausbaustufe 15 Gigawattstunden Jahreskapazität aufweisen. Ende 2025 soll die erste Ausbauphase fertiggestellt sein. Bis 2028 sei eine Verdreifachung der Produktionskapazität geplant. In der Planung sei außerdem eine dritte Ausbaustufe verankert worden.
Spekulationen sahen Werk in Deutschland
Anfang 2022 hatte CALB den Bau einer europäischen Batteriefertigung angekündigt. Einige Experten hatten zu diesem Zeitpunkt darüber spekuliert, dass die Fabrik in Deutschland errichtet werden würde, da der chinesische Konzern eine strategische Partnerschaft mit dem Unternehmen Drees & Sommer unterhält, das mit der Standortfindung beauftragt wurde und seinen Hauptsitz in Deutschland hat.
