Die südkoreanische Hyundai Motor Group hat mit dem Bau ihrer Produktionsstätte im US-amerikanischen Bryan County begonnen. Das Projekt mit dem Namen „Hyundai Motor Group Megaplant America“ (HMGMA) war vor fünf Monaten angekündigt worden und umfasst eine Investition von 5,54 Milliarden US-Dollar.

Produktion soll 2025 starten

An dem neuen Standort sollen Elektrofahrzeuge der Marken Hyundai, Genesis und Kia hergestellt werden. In den Planungen ist laut Angaben des Konzerns auch ein Werk zur Produktion eigener Zellen enthalten. Die Inbetriebnahme erster Produktionslinien sei für die erste Hälfte des Jahres 2025 veranschlagt. Die Einrichtung soll mehr als 8.100 Arbeitsplätze schaffen.

Große Ziele und hohe Ansprüche

Hyundai verfolge den Anspruch, Marktführer der Branche in den USA zu sein. Die Investition in Bryan County im US-im Bundesstaat Georgia bedeute einen wichtigen Schritt in Richtung des Unternehmensziels und bilde gleichzeitig einen Teil eines globalen Netzwerks für die Produktion von Elektrofahrzeugen, das der Konzern in den nächsten Jahren aufbauen will. Bis zum Jahr 2030 möchte Hyundai Motors weltweit 3,23 Millionen Elektroautos an Kunden geliefert haben.
