Der chinesische Batteriehersteller SVOLT hat angekündigt, in Lauchhammer eine Fabrik zur Herstellung von Elektrofahrzeugakkus eröffnen zu wollen. Über mögliche Produktionsziele oder genaue Zeitpläne bis zur Inbetriebnahme des Werks im Kreis Oberspreewald-Lausitz wurden keine Angaben gemacht.
Übernahme bestehender Infrastruktur
Der neue Standort soll an einer ehemaligen Produktionsstätte des Windenergieanlagenbauers Vestas entstehen. Ende August habe SVOLT das Werk inklusive Gebäude und Infrastruktur erworben. Bei der Umrüstung zur Zellfabrik soll ein Großteil der Bestandshallen bestmöglich weitergenutzt werden, heißt es. Die notwendigen Umbau- und Erweiterungsmaßnahmen sollen zeitnah erfolgen. Aktuell werde ein Masterplan für alle anstehenden Arbeiten bis zur Eröffnung des Werks erstellt.
Vernetzung der deutschen Standorte
Nachdem der Konzern bereits mitgeteilt hatte, einen Standort im Saarland mit Werken in Überherrn und Heusweiler zu errichten, handelt es sich bei der aktuellen Ankündigung um die zweite große Produktionsstätte in Deutschland. Eigenen Angaben zufolge möchte SVOLT in Lauchhammer produzierte Batteriezellen dann unter anderem in Heusweiler weiterverarbeiten und für den Einsatz in Elektrofahrzeugen vorbereiten.
Direkte Nähe zu weiteren Akteuren
Auch die Anwesenheit von Kooperationspartnern in unmittelbarer Nähe habe die Standortwahl vereinfacht. Zahlreiche Unternehmen entlang der Lieferkette und des Batterielebenszyklus sind in der Region Brandenburg ansässig – so auch der BASF-Konzern, mit dem SVOLT Ende 2021 eine Partnerschaft für die gemeinsame Arbeit an Batteriematerialen und deren Recycling geschlossen hatte.
