Das britisch-koreanische Batterie-Unternehmen Eurocell hat die Niederlande als Standort für seine geplante Gigafactory auserkoren. Im vergangenen Februar hatte der Konzern seinen Plan bekanntgegeben, eine Batteriefabrik in Europa zu errichten. Laut Nick Clay, Chief Commercial Officer bei Eurocell EMEA, befindet sich sein Betrieb in den finalen Gesprächsrunden sowohl mit der niederländischen Regierung als auch mit der Investitionsagentur NOM.

Volle Produktion bereits 2025

Eurocell wolle das Projekt in zwei Phasen angehen: Bis 2023 möchte der Konzern dabei in der Lage sein, Bestandskunden in Europa mit „fortschrittlichen Zellen“ zu beliefern. In der zweiten Phase, deren Abschluss für das Jahr 2025 vorgesehen ist, soll die volle Produktionskapazität des Werks von 40 Millionen Zellen jährlich erreicht sein. Die Pläne werden von einer 800 Millionen US-Dollar schweren Investition gestützt. Für die Zeit bis zum Jahr 2028 rechne Eurocell mit Gesamtkosten von rund zwei Milliarden US-Dollar.
