Das Batterieforschungszentrum des „Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology“ (MEET) der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster hat eine neue Produktionslinie zur Assemblierung von Lithium-Metall-Batterien vorgestellt. Die Anlage ermögliche den Zellbau dieser neuen Batterietypen und erweitere die Produktionsforschung am Standort, heißt es in einer offiziellen Mitteilung. Auf insgesamt 150 Quadratmetern Trockenraumfläche arbeiten die Forschenden mit einer deutschlandweit einzigartigen Anlage.

Post-Lithium-Batterien im Fokus

Lithium-Metall- und Feststoffbatterien gelten als Hoffnungsträger für die Batterie der Zukunft. Während Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler die Technologie der verschiedenen Batterietypen stetig weiterentwickeln, beinhaltet ihre Produktion noch zahlreiche Herausforderungen. Die Produktionsprozesse sogenannter Post-Lithium-Ionen-Batterien wie Lithium-Schwefel- oder Festkörperbatterien unterscheiden sich deutlich von der Herstellung der Lithium-Ionen-Batterien. Schritte wie Elektrodenherstellung, Zellbau oder Zyklisierung erfordern andere Techniken, Herstellungsumgebungen und Maschinen. Die neue Batterielinie am MEET-Forschungszentrum soll dies ermöglichen.

Laminierung, Vereinzelung und Stapelung

Die Anlage ist acht Meter lang und soll der Forschung an Techniken der Laminierung, Vereinzelung und Stapelung für diese Batterien dienen. Das Institut wolle mit einer mehrlagigen Lithium-Metall-Batteriezelle beginnen. Die Produktionslinie steht in einer Trockenraumumgebung mit einem Taupunkt von minus 60 Grad Celsius. Dies entspricht umgerechnet etwa 0,02 Prozent Luftfeuchtigkeit bei etwa üblicher Raumtemperatur.
