LG Energy Solution hat den Bau einer neuen Produktionsstätte für zylindrische Batterien in Europa bekannt gegeben. Das neue Werk ist Teil der Unternehmensstrategie die Massenproduktion von 4680er Zellen sicherstellen und den Markt in diesem Segment anzuführen. Darüber hinaus erwägt das koreanische Unternehmen die Ausweitung der Produktionskapazität von Pouchzellen in seinem Werk in Breslau in Polen.

Roadmap von LGES

Das Unternehmen beabsichtigt, seine Produktionskapazität bis 2025 auf mehr als 100 Gigawattstunden (GWh) zu steigern, indem es seine Batterieproduktionskapazität in Europa deutlich erhöht. Das Unternehmen plant, die Produktionsanlagen in seinem polnischen Werk, in dem Batterien für Ford hergestellt werden, bis 2023 zu verdoppeln und die Anlagen nach und nach weiter auszubauen. Bedingt durch die Nähe zum Werk von Tesla im brandenburgischen Grünheide, wird derzeitig spekuliert, dass LGES die 4680er Zellen an Tesla liefern werde.

Weitere Erweiterungen koreanischer Zellhersteller

SK On ist es vor kurzem gelungen, in enger Abstimmung mit der deutschen Handelsversicherungsagentur Euler Hermes, der Korea Trade Insurance Corp. und der Export-Import Bank of Korea umgerechnet zwei Milliarden Euro aufzubringen. Das Unternehmen plant, diese Mittel für den Bau seines dritten europäischen Werks in Ivancsa, Ungarn, zu verwenden. Das Werk erfordert eine Investition von etwa 2,5 Milliarden Euro und soll ab 2024 Pouchzellen mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 30 Gigawattstunden pro Jahr herstellen.
