Das chinesische Unternehmen BTR plant den Aufbau eines nachhaltigen Produktionsstandorts für Batteriematerialien in Europa. Diese Meldung wurde mit der Unterzeichnung der Absichtserklärung mit dem britischen Zellhersteller Britishvolt veröffentlicht. Die Absichtserklärung mit dem chinesischen Unternehmen BTR umfasst die Lieferung von synthetischem Graphit und Siliziumoxid.

Britishvolt stärkt Lieferkette

Diese Ankündigung folgt auf die Nachrichtenmeldung, dass Britishvolt ein Teil seines Kobaltbedarfs durch den strategischen Partner Glencore und seinen Nickelsulfatbedarf durch das Joint Ventures mit dem indonesischen Unternehmen VKTR decken möchte. Durch eine Fabrik für Batteriematerialien in Europa soll der Lieferwege zum Fertigungsstandort von Britishvolt im Nordosten Englands verkürzen und so den CO2-Footprint der Batteriezellen von Britishvolt reduzieren.

Nachhaltige Materialproduktion

Das Anodenmaterial soll unter Verwendung erneuerbarer Energien hergestellt und steht im Einklang mit dem Wunsch des Unternehmens, die besten Materialien auszuwählen und Partnerschaften mit Weltklasse-Lieferanten aufzubauen. Die Graphitproduktion ist energieintensiv, ähnlich wie der Zellproduktion. Erneuerbare Energien zu nutzen sei hierbei ein Ansatzpunkt, um nachhaltige und kohlenstoffarme Batterien zu produzieren.
