BASF will im brandenburgischen Schwarzheide eine Anlage errichten, die das Recycling schwarzer Masse aus Batterien im großtechnischen Maßstab ermöglicht. Die jährliche Produktionskapazität soll etwa 15.000 Tonnen Elektroauto-Batterien und Material entsprechen. BASF erweitert damit den Standort in Schwarzheide, wo noch im laufenden Jahr Batteriematerialien hergestellt werden sollen und wo bereits eine Pilotanlage zum Recycling aufgebaut wird.
Der Standort sei ideal für den Aufbau von Batterie-Recycling-Aktivitäten, da es in Mitteleuropa zahlreiche Hersteller von Elektroautos und Zellproduzenten gebe, heißt es in einer offiziellen Mitteilung des Konzerns. Mit der Investition sollen rund 30 neue Arbeitsplätze in der Produktion geschaffen werden. Die Inbetriebnahme sei für Anfang 2024 geplant.
Weitere Großanlage ist in Planung
Die Herstellung von schwarzer Masse steht am Anfang des Recycling-Prozesses und basiert auf der mechanischen Behandlung der Batterien. Die auf diese Weise gewonnene schwarze Masse enthält große Mengen der wichtigsten Metalle, die zur Herstellung von Kathodenmaterialien verwendet werden: Lithium, Nickel, Kobalt und Mangan. Im nächsten Schritt wird die schwarze Masse hydrometallurgisch weiterverarbeitet. BASF plant, eine entsprechende großtechnische Anlage Mitte des Jahrzehnts zu errichten.
