Das US-amerikanische Unternehmen „Solid Power“ hat die Fertigstellung seiner Pilotproduktionslinie für Festkörperbatteriezellen bekanntgegeben. Der Hersteller von Feststoffbatterien für Elektrofahrzeuge will Silizium-Batteriezellen für interne Tests produzieren, bevor sie an die Automobilpartner BMW und Ford geliefert werden. Die Massenproduktion sei bereits für das Jahr 2024 geplant.

Nachahmung bekannter Produktionsprozesse

Die Anlage sei so konzipiert, dass sie großformatige Zellen auf Sulfidbasis in einer Weise herstellt, die die bestehenden Produktionsprozesse für traditionelle Lithium-Ionen-Batterien nachahmt. Bei voller Auslastung soll die Pilotlinie in der Lage sein, 300 Zellen pro Woche respektive 15.000 Zellen pro Jahr zu produzieren, wovon der Großteil für Qualifikationstests in der Automobilindustrie vorgesehen sei.

Sulfidische Feststoffbatterie mit Silizium-Anode

Die Silizium-Zellen sollen für den Betrieb von Elektrofahrzeugen mit größerer Reichweite, niedrigeren Kosten und höherer Sicherheit ausgelegt sein. Durch die Verwendung von mehr als 50 Prozent aktiven Siliziums in der Anode habe „Solid Power“ die Zelle für eine höhere Energiedichte entwickelt, die zu einer längeren Fahrdauer ohne Ladezeit führen soll. Das Unternehmen aus Colorado gehe davon aus, seine Silizium-Zellen für Kapazitäten von 60 bis 100 Amperestunden optimieren zu können.
