Die Daimler Truck AG hat sich im Zuge einer Kapitalerhöhung von rund zehn Prozent des Grundkapitals an der Manz AG beteiligt. Das Maschinbauunternehmen Sitz in Reutlingen liefert wesentliche Anlagen für die Zellfertigung. Der Erlös der Kapitalerhöhung von 30,6 Millionen Euro diene der Finanzierung des weiteren Wachstums von Manz.

Batterietechnologien für Busse und Lkw

Ergänzend haben beide Unternehmen einen Kooperationsvertrag für eine strategische Partnerschaft unterzeichnet, auf deren Basis im ersten Schritt eine Pilotlinie für die Herstellung von Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen sowie die Montage von Batterien am Daimler-Truck-Standort Mannheim errichtet werden soll. Die künftigen Partner wollen ihr Know-how eigenen Angaben zufolge bündeln, um gemeinsam innovative Batterietechnologien und dazugehörige Produktionsprozesse für Lkw und Busse zu entwickeln.

Aufbau neuer Pilotlinie im „InnoLab Battery“

Im „InnoLab Battery“ des Daimler-Werks in Mannheim sollen künftig eigene Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen entwickelt sowie auf einer Pilotlinie produziert und zu kompletten Batteriesystemen montiert werden. Dazu sollen in den kommenden Monaten mehr als 60 neue Anlagen im rund 10.000 Quadratmeter großen Innovationslabor aufgebaut werden. Bis Ende 2024 sollen die Forschungserkenntnisse in die Entwicklung der batterieelektrischen Produktplattform von „Daimler Truck“ einfließen.
