Der Zellproduzent und -entwickler Farasis hat eine Methode zur direkten Wiederverwertung von Batteriematerialien vorgestellt. Eigenen Angaben zufolge forscht das Unternehmen bereits seit mehr als zehn Jahren an dem Recycling-Verfahren, bei dem das Aktivmaterial ohne erneuten Herstellungsprozess in der Zellproduktion wiederverwendet werden kann. Die Methode kommt derzeit bei der Rückgewinnung von Kathodenmaterial zur Anwendung und verspreche eine Recycling-Quote von mehr als 99 Prozent.
Validierung des Materials erfolgreich
Das direkte Recycling von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien basiert auf einem Verfahren, bei dem die Kristallstruktur des Kathodenmaterials erhalten bleibt, was eine kosten- und energiesparende Wiederverwendung des Materials ermöglichen soll. Farasis soll es nun gelungen sein, das recycelte Kathodenmaterial aus gebrauchten Zellen oder Produktionsausschuss zurückzugewinnen und in neue Zellen zu integrieren. Bei einem Anteil von 25 Prozent Rezyklat in einer Zelle mit zwei Amperestunden soll bei bis zu 600 Lade- und Entladezyklen kein Unterschied im Vergleich zu einer Zelle ohne Rezyklat vorliegen.
Schritt zur CO2-neutralen Zellproduktion
Durch das Direkt-Recycling-Verfahren soll der Anteil „neuen“ Kathodenmaterials erheblich reduziert werden, ohne die Leistung der neu hergestellten Batterien zu beeinträchtigen. Damit sei es umweltfreundlicher und reduziere den CO2-Fußabdruck der Zellproduktion.
