Ein Konsortium von Automobilherstellern und weiteren Akteuren aus der Wertschöpfungskette der Batterieproduktion soll einen „Batteriepass“ entwickeln, der den Inhalt und den CO2-Fußabdruck von Akkus in Europa erfasst. Insgesamt elf Partner – darunter VW, BMW, Umicore und BASF – werden vom Bundeswirtschaftsministerium mit 8,2 Millionen Euro gefördert. Sie sollen eine gemeinsame Klassifizierung und Standards für die Erfassung und Offenlegung von Batteriedaten erarbeiten, die nach den Vorschriften der Europäischen Union bald verbindlich werden könnten.
Einhaltung von CO2-Grenzwerten ab 2027?
Laut einem Vorschlag der Europäischen Kommission, der noch 2022 erörtert werden soll, müssen in Europa verkaufte wiederaufladbare Elektrofahrzeug-, Leichttransport- und Industriebatterien ab 2024 ihren Kohlenstoff-Footprint transparent machen und ab 2027 einen CO2-Emissionsgrenzwert einhalten. Zum selben Zeitpunkt sollen die Akkus auch den Anteil recycelter Rohstoffe angeben, der sich in ihrer Zelle befindet. Ab 2030 soll ein Mindestanteil recycelten Kobalts, Lithiums, Nickels und Bleis verbindlich sein.
Batteriepass soll auch Recycling erleichtern
Dem Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK) zufolge soll der Batteriepass auch das Recycling der in den Akkus enthaltenen Rohstoffe vereinfachen. Dies verringere die Abhängigkeit von ausländischen Lieferanten, die den Großteil der für die Batterieproduktion zentralen Ressourcen wie Lithium und Nickel kontrollieren. Das Konsortium umfasst die Systemiq Deutschland GmbH, die Volkswagen AG, die BMW AG, die Umicore AG & Co. KG, die BASF AG, das Fraunhofer IPK, den acatech e.V. und die Circulor GmbH sowie FIWARE Foundation, TWAICE Technologies und die VDE Renewables GmbH.
