Der kanadisch-österreichische Automobilzulieferer Magna International plant den Bau eines Werks zur Herstellung Batteriepacks in Windsor in Kanada. Das Werk soll über 16.500m² groß sein und zukünftig die Batteriepacks für SK On produzieren. Der Bau soll noch in diesem Jahr beginnen.

Ford als Großkunde

Magna International hatte zuletzt einen Vertrag zur Herstellung der Packs von Fords Elektrofahrzeugen unterzeichnet. Die jährliche Produktionskapazität des Werks wurde noch nicht bekannt gegeben, da dieses Werk die Batteriepakete für den F-150 Lightning, den meistverkauften Elektro-Pickup von Ford, herstellen soll, wird von einer größeren Fabrik ausgegangen. Die fertiggestellten Batteriepacks sollen voraussichtlich an das etwa 100 km entferntes Ford-Werk geliefert werden. Die benötigten Batteriezellen sollen aus dem SK On-Werk in Georgia (USA) stammen.

Spekulationen um weitere Zulieferer

Nach Aussagen von Branchenkenner soll es wahrscheinlich sein, dass das Werk von Magna in Ontario in Zukunft auch Batteriepacks mit Batteriezellen von LG Energy Solution herstellen wird. Als Argument wird das Joint Venture zwischen LG und Magna sowie die direkte Nähe zur Zellfabrik von LG Energy Solutions und Stellantis angeführt.
