Der chinesische Batteriezellhersteller CATL hat den Auftakt zur Fertigung von Lithium-Ionen-Zellen in seinem Werk in Arnstadt auf das laufende Jahr datiert. Der Produktionsstart sei für die zweite Hälfte 2022 beabsichtigt. Bis Ende des Jahres sollen allerdings nur acht Gigawattstunden statt der anvisierten 14 Gigawattstunden produziert werden.

Verzögerung mindert Kapazität zum Start

Der Spatenstich zum Bau des CATL-Werks in Thüringen war bereits im Oktober 2019 erfolgt. Die Fabrik sollte ursprünglich Anfang 2022 fertiggestellt werden. CATL-Europa-Chef Matthias Zentgraf gab sich beim Erhalt der Betriebsgenehmigung des Landes Thüringen zuletzt optimistisch. Die Produktionsmaschinen seien bereits auf dem Weg nach Arnstadt. Indes wird vermutet, dass die Verzögerung zu der geringeren Jahreskapazität geführt hat. In einer späteren Ausbaustufe soll sie zunächst auf 24 Gigawattstunden erweitert werden.

Erste CATL-Fabrik jenseits von China

Das Werk des chinesischen Herstellers ist die erste Produktionsstätte außerhalb Chinas. In dem Werk in der Nähe von Erfurt sollen künftig etwa 1.500 Mitarbeitende beschäftigt werden.
