Der Batteriezellproduzent Automotive Cells Company (ACC) und der Materialtechnologie- sowie Recycling-Konzern Umicore haben eine Vereinbarung zur Aufbereitung von Batteriematerialien geschlossen. Das Abkommen des Joint Ventures aus Stellantis, Total und Mercedes-Benz umfasst den Recycling-Dienst des Bedarfs der ACC-Pilotanlage im französischen Nersac.
95-Prozent-Effizienz bei zahlreichen Materialien
Umicore habe seit der Eröffnung die Recyclinganlage in Hoboken stetig weiterentwickelt und erziele künftig eine Extraktionseffizienz von mehr als 95 Prozent bei einer Vielzahl von Zellchemien. Das zurückgewonnene Material verfügt Konzernaussagen zufolge am Ende des Recycling-Prozesses über Batteriequalität. Die Recycling-Kapazität betrage 7.000 Tonnen Lithium-Ionen-Batterien – gleichbedeutend mit rund 35.000 Batterien von Elektrofahrzeugen.
Hohe Bedeutung einer europäischen Lieferkette
Laut Denis Goffaux, Executive Vice President von Umicore, ist Batterie-Recycling ein Schlüsselelement für eine nachhaltige Elektromobilität. ACC werde von der neuen Generation der Recyclingtechnologie profitieren, die 2022 eingeführt wurde. Dies unterstreiche die Bedeutung einer europäischen Lieferkette für den Erfolg der Elektrifizierung von Autos in der Region.
