Die Manz AG mit Sitz in Reutlingen hat eine Kooperation mit dem Batterieproduzenten Britishvolt geschlossen. Der weltweit agierende Maschinenbauer Manz soll Produktionsanlagen für die Montage von Lithium-Ionen-Batteriezellen mit einem Gesamtauftragsvolumen von mehr als 70 Millionen Euro liefern. In der ersten Ausbaustufe will Britishvolt ab 2023 mit diesen Anlagen eine jährliche Kapazität von vier Gigawattstunden erreichen.
Anlagen flexibel für künftige Formate
Das Projekt im nordenglischen Northumberland basiere auf einem zukunftsweisenden Konzept, das ein hohes Maß an Flexibilität erlaube und sich für künftige Zellformate und -geometrien anpassen lasse. Manz verfolge die Strategie des „Simultaneous Engineering“, um den gesamten Herstellungsprozess in kurzer Zeit mit einer maßgeschneiderten Anlagentechnik für die Montage der Rundzellen abzubilden. Dies habe positive Auswirkungen auf die Time-to-Market. Während die Auslieferung der Produktionsanlagen für 2023 geplant ist, sei der Produktionsstart aufgrund der geringen Einführungszeit schon am Ende desselben Jahres vorgesehen.
Wachstum auf mehr als 100 Gigawattstunden
Um die ambitionierten Wachstumspläne von Britishvolt und die strategische Zusammenarbeit schnell und effizient umzusetzen, unterzeichneten die beiden Unternehmen ein „Memorandum of Understanding“. Außerdem seien im Zuge der Kooperation weitere Produktionslinien für die Herstellung von Rundzellen und prismatischen Zellen in England sowie Kanada geplant. Insgesamt sollen die Kapazitäten von Britishvolt damit weltweit auf mehr als 100 Gigawattstunden steigen.
