Der chinesische Batteriehersteller SVOLT hat angekündigt, seine bis zum Jahr 2025 ursprünglich geplanten 320 auf 600 Gigawattstunden jährlicher Produktionsleistung zu erhöhen. Langfristig will das Unternehmen, das derzeit auch den Aufbau einer Batteriefabrik im saarländischen Überherrn vorantreibt, zu einer global agierenden Marke werden, die 25 Prozent des Weltmarkts für Batterien bedient.

400 Gigawattstunden auf der Habenseite
Eigenen Angaben zufolge ist die Planung dadurch gesichert, dass SVOLT zum Jahr 2025 bereits einen Auftragsbestand von insgesamt 400 Gigawattstunden vorweisen kann, der alleine auf Bestellungen aus dem Automobilsektor basiert. Aktuell sei das Unternehmen dabei, acht Produktionsstandorte mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 297 Gigawattstunden zu errichten. Zum Vergleich: SVOLTs größter inländischer Konkurrent CATL plant derzeit mit 525 Gigawattstunden bis zum Jahr 2025.

24 Gigawattstunden für Deutschland geplant
Während SVOLT momentan vor allem in China neue Standorte plant, sorgte im vergangenen Jahr eine Meldung für Aufsehen, derzufolge das Unternehmen auch für Deutschland einen Standort plane. Im November 2020 waren Pläne bekannt geworden, laut denen im Saarland zum Jahr 2023 die Batterieproduktion startet. Geplante Kapazität für den deutschen Standort sind im Gesamtmaßstab überschaubar anmutende 24 Gigawattstunden.
