Der deutsche Autobauer Volkswagen hat zwei führende Batterietechnik-Experten der Konkurrenz für sein Team gewonnen. Zur Erweiterung der eigenen Kompetenzen nahm VW Soonho Ahn von Apple und Jörg Hoffmann von BMW unter Vertrag. Beide hatten an ihren bisherigen Wirkungsstätten Führungspositionen inne.
Zentrale Herausforderung im globalen Wettkampf
VW hatte im Rahmen des unternehmenseigenen „Power-Day“ im vergangenen März eine Entwicklungsroadmap zur umfassenden Elektrifizierung der Fahrzeugprodukte bekanntgegeben. Um die dafür notwendigen Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen, sollen bis zum Jahr 2030 insgesamt sechs Gigafactorys für die Batteriefertigung entstehen. Die Produktionsstätten in der vorgegebenen Zeit zu errichten und dabei eine ständige Optimierung der Batterietechnik zu erzielen, gilt in Fachkreisen als zentrale Herausforderung im globalen Wettkampf mit etablierten Automobilkonzernen und E-Mobil-Marktführer Tesla.
Ahn arbeitet an eigenem Auto-Projekt
Laut einer aktuellen Meldung im „manager magazin“ investiert Volkswagen daher in entsprechendes Personal. Soonho Ahn war fast 20 Jahre lang Professor für „Battery Engineering & Science and Electrochemistry“ bei LG Chem und beinahe vier weitere Jahre bei Samsung SDI, bevor er 2018 zu Apple wechselte. Dort war er zuletzt Chef der Batterieentwicklung und Medieninformationen zufolge auch an den Plänen zu Apples immer noch geheimem Elektrofahrzeug-Projekt beteiligt. Zudem arbeitet Ahn bereits seit mehreren Jahren an einem eigenen Automobilprojekt.
Hoffmann widmet sich der Festkörperbatterie
Unterdessen war Jörg Hoffmann Leiter der Festkörperbatterieentwicklung bei BMW. Bei Volkswagen soll er laut aktuellen Informationen die Industrialisierung von Festkörperbatterien vorantreiben, die VW ebenfalls im vergangenen März als „finale Entwicklungsstufe der heute bekannten Batterietechnik“ vorgestellt hatte.
