Die VW-Tochter Audi möchte im Werk Neckarsulm ein Kompetenzzentrum zur Entwicklung von Batterien aufbauen. Schon bis zum Jahr 2023 soll dazu ein Technikum den Betrieb aufnehmen, das Prototypen für neue Batteriegenerationen produzieren soll. Seit Ende 2020 qualifiziert Audi eigenen Angaben zufolge Mitarbeiter für den Standort.
„Deutliches Bekenntnis zu Elektrifizierung und Standort“
Bislang hat der Autobauer dort bereits die Entwicklung von Hochvoltbatterien für Plug-in-Hybridfahrzeuge betrieben. Darauf aufbauend sei es nun das Ziel, vor Ort „die Entwicklung des kompletten Hochvoltbatterie-Portfolios für vollelektrische Fahrzeuge“ anzusiedeln. „Die Investitionsentscheidung ist ein deutliches Bekenntnis zur Elektrifizierung und damit zur langfristigen Sicherung des Standorts“, sagt Fred Schulze, Leiter des Audi-Werks Neckarsulm.
Werkstätten, Prüfstände und Büros geplant
Belegschaftsmitglieder, die zuvor im ebenfalls vor Ort befindlichen Prüftechnikum für Verbrennungsmotoren tätig waren, sollen ab 2023 Prototypen neuer Hochvoltspeicher-Module für verschiedene Elektrofahrzeuge erproben. Audi teilte zudem mit, dass noch vor dem geplanten Batterietechnikum bis Ende 2022 ein entsprechendes Multifunktionsgebäude mit Werkstätten, Prüfständen und Büros entstehen soll.
