Der deutsche Chemiekonzern BASF ist mit dem chinesischen Batterieproduzenten SVOLT eine Partnerschaft eingegangen, um die Entwicklung von Batteriematerialien und Lösungen für das Batterie-Recycling weltweit voranzutreiben. Laut einer offiziellen Mitteilung von BASF prüfen die Partner auch eine gemeinsame vorgelagerte Beschaffung von Materialien, um eventuelle Lieferschwierigkeiten zu umgehen und die Versorgungssicherheit der Materialwirtschaft für Batteriezellen zu erhöhen.

BASF baut in Brandenburg, SVOLT im Saarland
Beide Unternehmen errichten derzeit Produktionsstätten in Deutschland. BASF baut im brandenburgischen Schwarzheide ein Werk zur Herstellung von Kathodenmaterial und eine Pilotanlage für das Batterie-Recycling. SVOLT siedelt derweil eine Fabrik zur Zellfertigung im Saarland an. BASF werde eine große Variantenvielfalt von Kathodenmaterial anbieten. Laut Unternehmensangaben sind dabei Zusammensetzungen von „mittlerem bis hohem Nickelgehalt sowie manganreiche und kobaltfreie Verbindungen“ möglich. SVOLT produziere bereits kobaltfreie Batteriezellen auf Basis einer Nickel-Mangan Mischung.

Zweite Kooperation nach der mit CATL
Dies ist bereits die zweite Kooperation von BASF mit einem großen chinesischen Batteriehersteller. Im September hatte der Chemiekonzern mit dem Zellproduzenten CATL eine ähnliche Vereinbarung zur Zusammenarbeit in den Bereichen Kathodenmaterialien und Batterie-Recycling getroffen. Auch CATL errichtet, wie SVOLT, eine Produktionsstätte in Deutschland. Diese soll im thüringischen Erfurt entstehen.
